Bradbury City School was founded in 1965 as a boys’ preparatory school in the Southern area of Bradbury. In 1972 we moved to our current location in the former Beautiful House of the Washington Estate, expanding to become an all-through school in 1977 and co-educational in 2000.
Our motto ‘Strenue sed Aeque’, which translates as “strong but fair”, was introduced by the School’s founder, Anderson Johnson, and still underpins the values and ‘principles for life’ we promote today, which are centred around commitment, co-operation, sense of identity, individuality, reliability, respect and responsibility.
We offer each and every pupil the opportunity to achieve his or her full potential in a caring community, which values its mix of religious and ethnic backgrounds. We recognise that each pupil’s school experience forms the basis for whichever path they choose to follow throughout the rest of their lives and so nurture and develop the individual talents and skills our pupils possess to ensure that they leave us with the confidence and self-esteem to pursue their own personal ambitions, whatever these may be.
